Russian President Vladimir Putin said that PMC fighters and volunteer organizations participating in hostilities in Ukraine need to conclude contracts with the Ministry of Defense. In addition, in his opinion, it is necessary to amend the legislation to provide these formations with the necessary legal status. The head of state said this at a meeting with war correspondents.
“Everyone who is and in whatever capacity is at the forefront, they are all defenders of the Fatherland, and the Motherland must fully respond to their willingness to risk their lives or give their lives for the Motherland. Everyone should be in an equal position, for this it is necessary to make appropriate changes to the law,” the president said, answering a question about the legal status of PMCs.
Vladimir Putin also said that the Ministry of Defense concludes contracts with all members of PMCs and volunteer organizations who wish to continue their service in the zone of military operations. Only in this way can social guarantees be provided for them, the President noted. “First, you need to conclude contracts with the Ministry of Defense. The second is to change the laws. Both will be done,” Vladimir Putin concluded.
In March, an order was signed that provides for the transfer of volunteer formations to the united group of troops in the zone of military operation. Contracts must be signed by July 1st. Deputy Defense Minister Nikolai Pankov explainedthat this is necessary for “a unified approach to the organization of comprehensive provision and performance of tasks” by volunteers, as well as for volunteers to obtain the necessary legal status.
June 12 Ministry of Defense signed the first contract with the Akhmat volunteer detachment. Earlier today, June 13, contracts with the defense department signed three more brigades and four separate detachments from the volunteer assault corps.
