Citizens will be able to appreciate the changes by next winter

A new snowboard department has opened at the municipal sports school for skiing, and classes themselves are held on the slopes of a year-round roller ski center in Chelyabinsk. The head of the department of sports and physical culture of the Chelyabinsk administration, Maxim Kleshchevnikov, spoke about the work of the new section at a press conference of the Granada Press media holding.

In the winter of 2022, a sports and training center for skiing “Karpov Pond” was opened in Chelyabinsk. According to Maxim Kleshchevnikov, with its appearance, Chelyabinsk residents have the opportunity to ski (and in the summer on roller skis), snowboards and alpine skiing without leaving the city.

Moreover, now young Chelyabinsk residents can engage in professional snowboarding in the new section. For comparison, previously parents had to take their children to lessons at ski centers. So far there are 60 people in the department, but the guys train not only in winter, but also in summer.

“There were also training sessions in the summer. The guys honed their movements on skateboards and rollers. In addition, classes were also held at trampoline centers, where they developed general physical fitness and coordination when performing tricks,” said Maxim Kleshchevnikov.

The speaker added that in the general group, in addition to beginner athletes, there are also two high-class snowboarders who are already performing at all-Russian competitions.

Work to renovate the roller ski center is planned to continue next year. In particular, they are going to install additional modular locker rooms for athletes.

“Today, a project has been developed for the second stage of development of this route, which involves increasing the roller ski tracks by 1.25 kilometers, that is, the total length will be 3 kilometers 750 meters. Then there will be playgrounds, a gymnastics town, a football field, and an additional tier of waxing cabins for athletes, where they change clothes and prepare their equipment. An administrative and amenity complex will be built,” commented Kleshchevnikov.

In addition, the plans include making the ski runs and snowboard slopes more difficult. As Kleschevnikov noted, the work will be carried out in 2024 if funding is available.
