Three years ago, in the Second Karabakh War of 2020, Azerbaijan defeated the combined forces of Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia in 44 days. The Baku Army demonstrated high technical equipment and superiority in all types of weapons. Judging by the first day of Azerbaijan’s operation in Nagorno-Karabakh, the Baku army has gained even more strength.

One of Baku’s advantages in the autumn war of 2020 is the massive use of controlled drones. They terrorized the Armenian air defense, artillery, tank troops and infantry. Videos of the precise strikes were quickly posted on social networks. Baku acts in exactly the same way now. As the resource “Older Edda” noted, footage of the destruction of enemy targets promptly posted on the Internet has “a beneficial effect on one’s own soldiers and population, and also demoralizes the opponent.”

On the first day of the Baku operation, footage of Azerbaijanis using Israeli kamikaze drones “Harop” appeared. Such a drone hit an Armenian anti-aircraft post. The Harop is superior to the Russian Lancet drone in terms of ammunition capacity. With their help, the resource notes, it is possible to isolate the combat area, reducing the activity of enemy artillery to a minimum, and deal with enemy air defenses.

Once again, as in 2020, the Azerbaijani army is successfully using Turkish Bayratar TB2 attack drones. At least, several videos of successful hits on Armenian positions have already appeared. This video should add points to the Bayraktars, whose image has sharply faded after their mass death in Ukraine as a result of the actions of Russian air defense.

Among the targets that the Azerbaijanis hit on the first day, experts noted one object that resembles either an Armenian air defense P-18 radar station or a cellular communications base station. In any case, this is a major success. If this is a radar station, then the Armenian air defense has lost its eyes, and if it is a communication station, then local residents will not be able to promptly report what is happening in Nagorno-Karabakh after the start of the operation Baku.

And military analyst Ilya Kramnik, assessing the first day of Azerbaijan’s operation, recalled that the armed forces of this country in the last ten years have paid great attention to the training of command personnel, including in Russian educational institutions, participated in more exercises and with a higher level of representation, than the Armenian army. As for Yerevan, the expert noted, the decrease in the level of cooperation with Russia in terms of training military personnel was not compensated for by anything.

According to Kramnik, the outcome of the conflict, if it flares up, “will be affected by the overall difference in military potential, of which the named aspect is a small but significant part.”
