An “unknown aircraft” discovered over the western United States turned out to be a hot air balloon, ABC TV reported.
Earlier, CBS News reported that the US military was monitoring the movements of an unknown aircraft over the western United States. According to sources, the object does not pose a threat, while there is no information yet about which country it belongs to and for what purpose it was launched.
“US fighters intercepted a balloon flying over the western part of the country,” the report said. It is also clarified that the flying object probably did not pose a threat.
Air currents carried an unidentified balloon over the east. Earlier in the day, it was spotted over the state of Colorado at an altitude of more than 13 kilometers. According to the channel’s source, as a result, aircraft were scrambled to study the object.
A year ago, in February 2023, a Chinese balloon was discovered over the continental United States. It was well above the air corridor used by commercial aviation. Later, the Pentagon said that the reconnaissance aircraft was collecting information about US strategic targets and shot it down. A scandal ensued.
