The University of Massachusetts conducted a study on the timeliness of termination of employment. It turned out that both too early and too late retirement are unfavorable for health.

So at what age is it better to leave work? The results of the study were commented on by psychologist and psychotherapist Oleg Shevchenko for MK.

According to the conclusions made by American experts, it is extremely undesirable to stop working before the age of 57: a person risks losing the incentive to live, and in this case the aging process starts to accelerate.

You should also not continue working after 72 years of age.

“This age, 72 years, is determined not only for hired employees, but also for those engaged in private business,” explains Shevchenko. – Researchers explain this by the fact that during this period of life, the courage and interest that work brought earlier fades away and, moreover, transforms into irritation and fatigue. Adrenaline, the surge of which was caused by production activities, no longer invigorates, but, on the contrary, destroys the body. Of course, this is an average figure, people are individual, deviations in one direction or another are possible, but in general, after 70, in my opinion, caution should be exercised. In addition, much depends on the type of activity: occupations that require high nervous tension – this primarily applies to private entrepreneurship – pose the greatest danger. Therefore, businessmen who do not want to retire completely should have a good assistant whom they trust and who would conduct business on their behalf.

Scientists clarify that the study was conducted on men. A separate analysis will be carried out for women later.
