Israel intensifies bombing of northern Gaza

Over the past hour, Israel has intensified attacks on the northern regions of the Gaza Strip, RIA Novosti reports citing a report from the Al Jazeera TV channel.

“Over the past hour, Israel has intensified its bombing in the northern Gaza Strip, especially near the Jabaliya refugee camp, where an entire area was attacked and dozens of residential buildings were completely destroyed,” the material says.

It was previously reported that the UN Security Council, at the request of the United Arab Emirates, will hold a meeting on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Reportedly, a UN Security Council meeting on this issue will take place on Monday, October 30 at 15.00 (22.00 Moscow time).

Earlier, the UN General Assembly adopted a draft resolution on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, proposed by a number of Arab countries and calling for an immediate truce. 120 countries voted in support of the document, 14 were against, 45 abstained.

The resolution condemns violence against civilians on both sides and calls for an immediate, reliable, sustainable humanitarian truce and a subsequent cessation of hostilities. The resolution also calls for the “immediate, unconditional release of civilians illegally held captive.”

Earlier in his speech, the UN Secretary General expressed the opinion that the Hamas attack on Israel did not occur out of nowhere, while Palestine and its people have been under occupation for more than 50 years. However, he said that this is not an excuse for Hamas’ actions. His words caused anger in Israel. Israeli Permanent Representative to the UN Gilad Erdan criticized the speech of UN Secretary Antonio Guterres at a UN Security Council meeting, calling it “shocking.” He also said that the UN Secretary General was “out of touch with the reality” of the Middle East, and considered his statements “distorted” and “immoral.” Erdan accused the UN Secretary General of justifying terrorism and called on him to apologize for his words or resign. He also said that Israel will conduct an “assessment of its relations” with the UN after the Secretary General’s speech.
