Israel carried out strikes on at least three places in Gaza, where it ordered the evacuation of civilians after the fragile truce between Israel and Hamas broke down earlier this month, writes CNN.
On December 1, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) published a map of Gaza, divided into 623 numbered blocks, outlining areas where the military would inevitably strike and areas to which civilians should flee. It was accessed online via a QR code printed on flyers thrown over the strip.
The map, a relic of a short-lived 1970s plan to rebuild the Gaza Strip during the early years of Israel’s occupation of the coastal strip, was described by the IDF as a safe way to save lives.
However, a CNN analysis shows that the IDF’s instructions were imprecise and confusing at times. Regular updates highlight numbered blocks in orange, encouraging citizens to leave these areas and move to other areas marked on the map. But some reports were conflicting, and concerns were also raised about the ability of Palestinians to access information due to power and telecommunications outages.
Using video and images posted online, satellite imagery and local news reports, CNN confirmed three Israeli strikes in areas where citizens were ordered to flee.
