Russian mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Islam Makhachev defeated Charles Oliveira of Brazil at UFC 280. The lightweight fight took place in Abu Dhabi. The Russian won by choke in the second round and won the UFC title.
The 30-year-old Makhachev now has 23 victories and one defeat. Oliveira, 33, has 33 wins and nine losses. Khabib Nurmagomedov, who retired in the fall of 2020, previously held the UFC lightweight title.
In another UFC 280 fight, Russian former UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan lost Sean O’Malley from the USA. The fight ended with a split decision of the judges. In addition, at UFC 280 there was a duel between the Americans Aljamain Sterling and TJ Dillashaw.
