Ireland fines Meta €1.2bn for transferring data to the US
The Irish Data Protection Commission fined the American company Meta Platforms (recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation) a record 1.2 billion euros for transferring personal data of users from the EU to the United States. It is reported by CNBC.
According to the source, such a fine has become the largest ever administrative penalty in the European Union in the field of personal data law.
Andrea Jelinek, President of the European Data Protection Council, admitted that Meta regularly shared user information, thereby violating privacy rules. She also clarified that such punishment would make other organizations aware of the consequences of serious violations.
