Iranian Minister of Information and Communication Technologies Isa Zarepour said that Iran plans to build three more satellites together with Russia, similar to the one launched on August 9 from the Baikonur cosmodrome.
“God forbid, according to the agreements reached, we will build Khayyam-2, Khayyam-3 and Khayyam-4 in cooperation with Russia,” said Zarepur (quote by TASS).
He noted that the Khayyam satellite project was developed by the Iranian Space Agency, and its production took place on the territory of Russia.
August 9 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome started carrier rocket “Soyuz-2.1b” with the Iranian satellite for remote sensing of the Earth (ERS) “Khayyam”. The rocket also delivered 16 small vehicles into space.
Russia and Iran signed an agreement on the creation of a space system for remote sensing in 2015. According to the document, the VNIIEM corporation was responsible for the development and launch of the satellite, the BARL research and production concern was engaged in finalizing the ground infrastructure, and the Iranian company Bonyan Danesh Sharg acted as the operator of the space system.
