On November 14, the former first vice-governor and chairman of the government of the Samara region, Viktor Kudryashov, who announced his resignation on the same day, and the acting minister of construction of the region, Mikhail Aseev, were arrested in Samara.

According to Kommersant, the arrests are related to a criminal case of abuse of power. According to the investigation, the defendants transferred 194 million rubles to Volgatransstroy-proekt LLC without conducting a state examination as part of a state contract for designing the construction of the Samarskaya metro station.

The government contract provided for the contractor to complete the work by December 31, 2021. However, two months before this deadline, it became known that the regional authorities canceled the construction of the Samarskaya station due to insufficient distance between the stations. As a result, only the Teatralnaya station was built.

State Duma deputy from the Samara region Mikhail Matveev (Communist Party of the Russian Federation) emphasized that the arrest of Kudryashov and Aseev would deal a significant blow to the reputation of the regional government.
