The Petrozavodsk City Court sentenced 26-year-old Valery Krupoderschikov and 27-year-old Pavel Ilyin, instructors of the camp on Syamozero, where 14 children died in 2016. Interfax was informed about this by the press service of the court.

The men were found guilty under the article under Part 3 of Art. 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (performance of work or provision of services that does not meet safety requirements, resulting in the death of two or more persons through negligence).

Valery Krupoderschikov was sentenced to six years in a general regime colony, Pavel Ilyin – five years in prison.

In 2019, Valery Krupoderschikov and Pavel Ilyin were acquitted, but after the cassation court granted the submission of the Deputy Prosecutor General, their case was sent for review.

In June 2016, 47 children and 4 instructors from the camp belonging to the Syamozero park-hotel went on a water trip in a raft and two canoes in bad weather. During the storm, the boats capsized and 14 children died.

In 2016, Valery Krupoderschikov was 19 years old, Pavel Ilyin was 20.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the instructors were inexperienced students, and the boats were not designed for such a large number of children. In addition, the children were not provided with life jackets of the correct size. As a result of the check, it also turned out that the camp was overcrowded and the children were sent on hikes due to the lack of sleeping places.

Previously, former camp director Elena Reshetova and her deputy Vadim Vinogradov received nine years and six months in prison. The acting head of the Rospotrebnadzor department for Karelia, Lyudmila Kotovich, as well as the former head of the department’s department, Anatoly Kovalenko, were acquitted.

Former employees of the Moscow Department of Labor and Social Protection Tatyana Barsukova and Elena Semkina were also sentenced under the article of negligence. They were responsible for organizing recreational activities for minors.
