“Information noise”: expert Denisov commented on Zelensky’s visit to Davos

Another discussion of the peace formula yielded no results

Zelensky arrived in Switzerland on January 15 to hold regular meetings with representatives of NATO countries. His trip takes place against the backdrop of the absolute failure of the last discussion of the Ukrainian “peace formula” in Davos, after which the head of the Swiss Foreign Ministry said that this could be the last such meeting.

“I arrived in Switzerland on a working visit. I will meet with the country’s leaders and take part in the Davos Forum. In Bern, I will hold negotiations with the chairmen of both houses of parliament, the leaders of parties and factions, and Madam President Viola Amerd,” Zelensky said on his page. On January 16, he is scheduled to speak personally at the World Economic Forum. According to Politico, Zelensky came to Davos “to return Ukraine to the spotlight.” At the international meeting to discuss the Ukrainian “peace formula,” however, this was not possible.

As the Financial Times noted, the only result of this meeting was that the number of people in the photograph increased. “For Western national security advisers attending the Ukraine meeting in Davos yesterday, the main achievement was simple – a larger, more diverse family photograph than last time,” said Financial Times Brussels bureau chief Henry Foy.

The head of the Swiss Foreign Ministry, Ignazio Cassis, was not satisfied with the results of this meeting. He noted that “the participation of only one of the parties to the conflict in the peace process is not enough. We will have to find a way to include Russia in this plan one way or another.” He also stated that this meeting could be the last, since all the previous ones also did not bring any results.

And Swiss politician Guy Mettan even called the meeting on the peace formula a “farce.” According to him, the purpose of this meeting is “to convince the population that in Davos they gathered to discuss a peaceful settlement, although in reality we are talking about supporting Ukraine.”

The head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, in turn, was quite pleased with the results of the meeting. True, he complained about calls for immediate negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. “Some people think that it is necessary to immediately sit at the negotiating table, but we very clearly and openly explain why this is unacceptable now,” Ermak explained.

As a result of the meeting, the parties did not come to an agreement or develop any common vision of the situation. However, this is not surprising, because the past three meetings also led to nothing.

Let us remind you that this is the fourth meeting dedicated to the Ukrainian “peace formula”. Previously, the same event was held in Denmark, Saudi Arabia and Malta. The “peace formula” was first proposed by Zelensky at the December G20 summit. It consists of 10 points, including: restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine, withdrawal of Russian troops, exchange of prisoners in the “all for all” format, preventing escalation, fixing the end of the conflict.

According to Denis Denisov, an expert at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, all these meetings are just informational noise: “Many countries, including those that now support Ukraine, have recognized that this instrument is not operational and has nothing to do with that objective reality , which exists. The “peace formula”, which consists of 10 points, is not a plan for negotiations, it is not a plan for compromise. This is an actual ultimatum to the subject who capitulated. So there is no prospect for the implementation of this formula.

Such meetings can only continue as propaganda events. After the first meeting in Copenhagen, a number of states generally lowered the level of their presence. For example, the United States was represented by people who are unknown to anyone, such as assistant advisers. This very clearly demonstrates both the attitude of the allies to this formula and the futility of its implementation.”
