Garuda Aerospace, one of the leaders in the Indian drone manufacturing sector, intends to achieve 100% localization of production by the end of the year after the introduction of a ban on the import of components from China, the website of the Indian defense portal Indian Defense Research Wing (IDRW) reports.
On August 8, Reuters reported that the Indian government has banned manufacturers of attack and reconnaissance drones from using components made in China. IDRW writes that India’s move is due to a desire to strengthen its defense capabilities, as well as security, self-sufficiency and support for domestic production in the defense sector. Earlier, the Indian authorities and representatives of the drone industry held 2 rounds of negotiations.
Garuda Aerospace reportedly intends to increase the share of Indian components from the current 40% to 75% and then to 100% by the end of 2023. It is noted that such intentions are in line with the plans of the Indian government to make the country a global center for the production of drones by 2030.
Garuda Aerospace is reportedly working with more than 120 Indian companies in the drone manufacturing segment. The company is also partnering with the Indian Army to modify its drones to meet specific security needs. Garuda Aerospace drones are used by the Indian Army in strategic and tactical operations.
