Kyiv expects to receive 321 tanks from the allies, Ukrainian Ambassador to France Vadym Omelchenko said in an interview with BFM.
“The Allies will hand over a total of 321 tanks to Ukraine. Delivery times are different in each case, but we need this help as soon as possible,” he said.
Earlier, the United States and Germany announced plans to supply tanks to Ukraine. US President Joe Biden said that Washington will send 31 M1 Abrams tanks to Kyiv.
The White House said that the delivery of Abrams tanks to Ukraine could take “many months.” White House National Security Council strategic communications coordinator John Kirby said Leopard tanks would likely arrive in Kyiv from Germany and European allies in a relatively short time.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that if the M1 Abrams tanks that the United States promised to supply are in Ukraine only in August, it will be “too late.” Also, the President of Ukraine said that the timing of the delivery of European tanks also remain unknown. According to him, Kyiv needs a lot of tanks, since “five, eight or ten” units of such weapons will not change the situation on the battlefield.
