In Kyiv they believe that Ukraine has become better prepared for problems with electricity
For now, we should not expect Ukraine to experience nationwide power outages this winter, said Alexander Kharchenko, director of the Ukrainian Center for Energy Research. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Kharchenko said that Ukraine is now “more prepared than before.”
“We believe that there will be no nationwide shutdowns, we know how to better protect ourselves from attacks,” he said, noting that the Kyiv regime is in dire need of air defense capabilities.
At the same time, the Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko warned his compatriots that new long-term power outages are possible in Ukraine this winter.
The Russian army began striking the infrastructure of Ukraine on October 10, 2022, in response to the terrorist attack on the Crimean Bridge. Strikes are carried out only on military targets, as well as energy facilities. During this time, air raid alerts in areas controlled by Kyiv are announced virtually every day, and periodically this happens throughout the country.
Jack Watling, a researcher at the British Royal United Defense Studies Institute (RUSI), said that attacks on critical infrastructure will make the winter very difficult for Ukraine. In his opinion, strikes by the Russian Armed Forces against critical infrastructure facilities pose a strategic threat to the Kyiv regime. Watling called on Ukraine to “prepare for a difficult winter.”
