Administration of Tomsk reported on signing an agreement with the local diocese on informing the population in the event of an emergency using church bells. As stated in the press service of the mayor’s office, the document involves notification “with the help of a single-tone alarm bell.”
It is reported that a similar document has already been in force since 2014, however, the updated version made it possible to increase the number of churches involved in the notification to six and appoint a single person responsible for receiving information from the dispatch service in the diocese.
At the same time, the city authorities noted that Tomsk also has an integrated system for alerting citizens about emergencies with the help of sirens, SMS mailing lists, messages on radio and TV.
“The alarm bell will be an extreme measure to alert the population,” the mayor’s office said, “in the event of a massive power outage.”
