The Volgograd region banned the sale of alcohol on January 25: residents’ opinions were divided
The government of the Volgograd region established a ban on the sale of alcoholic beverages on January 25, Russian Students’ Day, as well as June 1 (International Children’s Day), June 29 (Youth Day) and September 1. “MK in Volgograd” asked residents of the region about this measure.
Volgograd university student Dmitry Gerasimov said that those who want to drink on Student Day will buy alcohol in advance, and if supplies run out, they will visit a cafe, bar or club, to which the ban does not apply.
Restaurateur Igor Kulikov suggested that any ban on legal alcohol could lead to the purchase of an alcohol surrogate.
Volgograd resident Elena Mulchina, whose son does not drink alcohol, expressed the view that restrictions on these products will make sobriety more popular.
Narcologist Vladimir Nikonov spoke about the dangers of both alcohol itself and attempts to “sober up and cheer up” with an energy drink, and said that he is a supporter of “any ban on alcohol, even for one day.”
