State Duma deputies from different factions have developed amendments prohibiting the showing of scenes of violence involving minors in the news. The state agency RIA Novosti refers to the bill. According to deputies, images of violence involving teenagers “dulls the ability of young people and children to compassion.”

Deputies propose to prohibit the showing of scenes of cruelty, physical and mental violence involving minors, as well as any other crimes involving them, “in television news programs and in information and telecommunication networks.”

The authors of the bill note that the tragedies that occurred in schools in Moscow, Kazan and Bryansk “were exaggerated without stopping and with all the details in television news programs showing videos and photos.” According to deputies, the demonstration of cruelty, physical and mental violence came to the fore.

“Scenes of crimes on television committed by teenagers, relishing pictures of real violence in the media dull the ability of young people and children to compassion, awaken aggression in them, and can provoke the most mentally unstable peers to commit violence, mutilation, blood and murder,” they say parliamentarians.

Deputies believe that the “true crime” genre needs to be eradicated from news and information agendas regarding minors. In their opinion, society does not need details of the crime in detail, but it needs to see that all the perpetrators have been punished.

On the morning of December 7, a 14-year-old student from a Bryansk gymnasium came to a biology lesson with a gun. She killed a classmate and wounded five schoolchildren, and then committed suicide. Immediately after the incident, Telegram channels published photographs of dead schoolgirls.
