In the popular animated series, they saw a mystical prediction of the catastrophe of the bathyscaphe "Titan"

Today, when the wreckage of the Titanic submersible was found 200 meters from the bow of the fatal Titanic, which carried five tourists into the ocean depths, who paid a lot of money for it, many remembered the “prediction” made in the animated series “The Simpsons”. It turned out that the writer and producer of The Simpsons, Mike Reiss, really dived into the sunken ship aboard the same Titan, but only much later than his own cartoon prediction – last year. We compared his revelations with the stories of the lucky ones who survived after the crash of the bathyscaphe.

Fans of cartoons saw the coincidence of today’s tragedy and one of the episodes of The Simpsons from 2006 in the fact that according to the plot behind the artifacts from the sunken ship, Homer Simpson is being dragged by his father, just like the Pakistani billionaire Shahzada Daoud his 19-year-old son Suleiman. His aunt Azmeh had already told the world that Suli tried in every possible way to get out of the dive. But Shahzada Daoud was so fascinated by the story of the Titanic that Suleiman was persuaded by his family to keep him company as a Father’s Day gift. Azmeh Daoud, the sister of a father who dragged his own son to the bottom of the sea, declares that she herself would never agree to this, no matter how much she was persuaded. But the man who came up with the same cartoon episode with a bathyscaphe – the scriptwriter and producer of “The Simpsons” Mike Reiss dived on the “Titan” 16 years after his own “prediction” – last summer. According to the “Simpsons dad”, he took his wife Denise with him, but at the last moment she “fell scared, hiding behind the outbreak of covid”, and remained on the escort ship.

The pair say that the system for disclaiming anyone but the diver himself is very intrusive on bathyscaphees:

“I signed three agreements, and each had the word “death” on the title page,” recalls Mike.

Bathyscaphe “Titan” with the creator of “The Simpsons” on board went under water for 10 hours and to a depth of 2.5 miles (more than 4 km). Everything went so well that Mr. Reiss even noted that he “even in the elevator of a skyscraper is more frightening.” And his wife claims that, staying on the base ship, she could watch the bathyscaphe for 10 hours.

We found those who had an underwater accident and managed to “swim out” – in the most direct sense, as well as those who rescued them.

– I was a tourist on board a bathyscaphe that crashed at a depth of 1000 m in the Gulf of Mexico, – says Maria, a Russian-speaking resident of England. – We managed to survive thanks to the knowledge and experience of the crew and rescuers, but it was the most terrible and difficult test in my life. After that, I stopped relaxing at sea. And I still can’t sleep in the dark, for several years now.

– I went diving in the Red Sea, – Ivan from the Moscow region shares, – one of my favorite diving activities is to go down on a bathyscaphe to a decent depth and from there dive even deeper on my own. It is dangerous, but very ticklish and memorable. Once we went down to 700 m in a bathyscaphe, and suddenly there was a failure in the system. We are trapped. It was a horror, worse than anything in my life was, although I am a diver with great experience. And all my comrades experienced a panic attack, although we had oxygen in reserve. Fortunately, we did not dive from the resort coast, but from a specialized diving town, where there are specially trained rescue teams. They were called as soon as they lost contact with us, after a few hours they pulled us out. But all five after that incident stopped not only scuba diving, but also to communicate with each other. This is a fear that does not unite, but separates.

– I am a former professional rescuer, – says Sergey from Bryansk, – I had to save people from a variety of situations. But I was at the crash site of the bathyscaphe only once – and after that I switched to office work. I don’t want to describe it, but it’s a Hollywood horror movie come to life. A panting man looks at you through the porthole of his trap, thrashing about like a fish in a can, and you swim around and can do nothing to help him. We spent the whole night there, I’m still scared to remember it.

At the same time, tourist bathyscaphes take tourists to all popular resorts around the world. And if in Turkey and Egypt it’s still more like “pleasure submarines” (strictly speaking, a bathyscaphe is a compact device designed for no more than 5 people, a submarine can accommodate any number of people depending on its size) , then in some places they are immersed in real bathyscaphes. Basically just in those places where you can see the wreckage of sunken ships. With real bathyscaphes, ordinary tourists are lowered to the bottom on many islands of the Caribbean, on the island of Hua Hin in Thailand, on the Spanish Mallorca, in Montenegrin Tivat, on Hawaii, in the Gulf of Mexico, in Australia, Indonesia, New Zealand, etc. At the same time, according to statistics, bathyscaphes, along with their passengers, die about once every 5 years: 2007 in Hurghada, 2 tourists died, 2011 – in Thailand, 11 victims, 2014 – Crimea, the number of victims is not specified, 2017 – the flooding of a tourist bathyscaphe in Gulf of Mexico, tourists were saved, but there were seriously injured, 2019 – a bathyscaphe accident in Spain, also without death, but with injuries, the same 2019 – the Egyptian Red Sea coast, everyone on board died, 2020 – Turkey, no deaths but all were seriously affected.

– Diving with a bathyscaphe only looks safer than diving on your own, – says Andrey Polev, an instructor in wreck diving. – Divers are trained, obtaining a certain qualification, which then must be regularly confirmed, otherwise you will not be allowed to difficult dives. Plus experience and knowledge of equipment and safety under water. Anyone can board the bathyscaphe for money, relying on the captain. So it will be if everything is in order with the boat. But the slightest technical failure – and force majeure, during which the captain may simply not have time to teach you the rules of survival. And anything can happen to a bathyscaphe at a depth – a gas leak, equipment breakdown, etc. Sometimes, after accidents under water, they say that everyone was saved, but “there are victims.” This is very mildly said. Divers know that it is necessary to rise to the surface of the water very carefully, it is more dangerous than the dive itself. Slightly violated the procedure, and there may be serious consequences – deep decompression sickness, nitrogen intoxication, or other side effects of blood glut with gases. And when people are urgently raised from a depth, as in the case of disasters, all possible side effects for the body are provided. And often for life.

Doctors add that it is strictly forbidden to dive in bathyscaphes before 12 and after 65 years, cores, asthmatics and those who have problems with pressure.
