The Investigative Committee will stop persecuting residents of new regions in criminal cases initiated by the Kyiv regime for political reasons. About it declared Chairman of the TFR Alexander Bastrykin in an interview with TASS.
“It is known that there have been facts when citizens living in these regions before they became part of Russia were prosecuted for political reasons for committing crimes under the criminal legislation of Ukraine,” he said.
According to Bastrykin, work is underway to annul the legal consequences of these decisions.
The Russian special operation in Ukraine began on February 24, 2022. During the special operation, Russian troops took full control of the LPR, as well as most of the DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. Subsequently, these territories became part of Russia, and on October 19 martial law was introduced in the regions.
Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting of the Human Rights Council, which took place in December 2022, instructed judicial and investigative departments to annul the criminal cases initiated before September for political reasons against residents of the new regions. A report on the implementation of this instruction must be submitted by May 1.
