The leader of the “NL” and its faction in the Duma Alexei Nechaev said “Kommersant”that, during a meeting with the President on February 15, he suggested that he form a new industrial policy based on “smart protectionism”, which, in the new conditions, would support business and not ruin consumers. According to Nechaev, Putin supported the idea, but noted that it is necessary to take into account the importance of price stability.
“We propose to introduce high duties on imports of goods from unfriendly countries. Other parties say that more money needs to be distributed, but we propose to collect it without increasing the burden on national companies,” Nechaev described the proposed innovations. He believes that the new approach to duties could help take money from the budgets of unfriendly countries and send it to the domestic one, which is what the “special economic operation” actually consists of.
It is proposed to supplement duties with another measure: directing half of the collected funds to support the relevant sectors of the economy – “where we introduce duties, we spend them on supporting these industries.”
