A man received an impressive sentence for a fatal accident
The driver who on November 2 last year killed a 73-year-old woman with her six-year-old granddaughter in the Ramensky urban district was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
As MK found out, on that day the 44-year-old culprit of the accident, driving a Renault car, was driving at a speed of 115 km/h and did not notice pedestrians on the side of the road. His wife was also in the car, and she called an ambulance and the police. The grandmother and granddaughter died on the spot from their injuries. They were returning to their country house from Moscow, where they had gone to the clinic to get their baby vaccinated. They had about a kilometer to go home.
The investigation into the case lasted almost a year, various technical and medical examinations were carried out. All this time, the culprit of the fatal accident was under recognizance not to leave the place and worked by profession – he is a taxi driver.
It turned out that at the time of the accident the taxi driver was under the influence of drugs – tests showed this. In 2004, the man was convicted of theft. In October of this year, a few days before the first court hearing, a man came home to the relatives of the victims and told the girl’s mother that he was not guilty – he simply did not notice the people in the dark. However, later in court he asked the child’s grief-stricken mother for forgiveness.
According to Olga Vradiy, senior assistant to the head of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee for the Moscow Region, the evidence collected by the investigator was found by the court to be sufficient for a verdict. The man was found guilty of violating traffic rules, resulting in the death of a girl and grandmother through negligence.
The Ramensky City Court sentenced the taxi driver to serve a sentence in a general regime correctional colony and deprived of the right to engage in activities related to driving vehicles for 3 years. He must also pay the relatives of the victims compensation for moral damage in the amount of 3 million rubles.
