As Oleg Radik, adviser to the head of the Lviv regional military administration, reported on social networks, the headman of the local village of Smykov climbed onto the monument to the Soviet soldier, thereby protecting it from the planned demolition.
“In the village of Smykov they tried to remove the monument. The elder Levitsky Vitaly Stepanovich climbed on it and cried,” he wrote
As a result, representatives of the police and authorities were unable to carry out dismantling.
“The equipment has come to destroy human memory, the memory of those who died for their land, for their children in the fight against fascism,” the Ukrainian agency Strana.ua quoted Levitsky as saying.
