Deputy Governor of the Kursk Region Andrei Belostotsky at an operational meeting in the government informed about the discovery of a measles outbreak in a local community of Evangelical Christian Baptists.
“Unfortunately, they were not all vaccinated against measles. Now we are working in this hearth. Thank you for being involved and responding to this issue consciously. Our health workers are vaccinating those who are not vaccinated and hospitalizing those who have clear signs of measles,” the official said. He did not specify the number of hospitalized.
At the end of last week, the head of the Rospotrebnadzor department for the Kursk region, Oleg Klimushin, said at a briefing that from June 10 to 15, measles was detected in 21 people, including 13 children.
“All the cases were in contact with a person whose measles was laboratory confirmed. This is an imported case, as we assume, from the Moscow region. An emergency notification of suspected measles was received on May 31, at the same time we began anti-epidemic measures, but the sick person hid his contacts and did not give the necessary information to the doctors, ”explained Mr. Klimushin (quote from“Kurskaya Pravda“).
The head of the department said that the sick are relatives. They refused to give any information on religious beliefs.
In April, in the Kursk region, according to Oleg Klimushin, in order to prevent the spread of measles, they began cleaning up immunization. In total, the region received 6,000 doses of the vaccine, and 3,000 people have already been vaccinated.
