In the Kherson region, eight people were hospitalized due to suspected bird flu

Eight people from the Gornostaevsky district of the Kherson region were hospitalized with suspected H5N1 influenza, the region’s emergency services report.
It is known that the diagnosis of “bird flu” was laboratory confirmed in at least one local resident, and therefore the authorities of the Kherson region strongly recommend leaving the area of the flu outbreak, or at least taking precautions.
According to Oksana Merzlyak, an infectious disease specialist at the Skadovsk Central Clinical Hospital, two people were admitted to the hospital over the past day, and four more today. The patients are in stable condition, they are under quarantine. As a rule, infected people feel severe chills, fever, muscle pain, cough, and fever up to 38-40 degrees.
This is not the first outbreak of bird flu in the region. Earlier, H5N1 was found in the Ukrainian part of the Kherson region, in the village of Velyka Oleksandrivka, from where 18 people were hospitalized, two of whom died.
In addition, symptoms similar to bird flu were found in residents of the settlements of Velyka Aleksandrovka, Borozenskoe, Kachkarovka, Dudchany and Mylovoe – all of them are located on the right bank of the Dnieper in the Kherson region.
It is likely that ducks living in the area of the Kakhovka reservoir became carriers of the infection.
