In the Kherson region, after the breakthrough of the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, the security regime will be strengthened

The leadership of the Kherson region will strengthen the security regime in the region after the destruction of the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station and the shelling of the Arabat Spit near Genichesk by Ukraine, the Kherson news agency reports, citing the acting governor of the region, Volodymyr Saldo.

Saldo said that key life support facilities would be taken under additional protection.

“The security regime will be further strengthened. But, as practice shows, as long as the military confrontation with an unprincipled adversary continues, absolute security cannot be guaranteed anywhere,” said interim governor.

The breakthrough of the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station occurred on the night of June 6. As a result of the incident, an uncontrolled discharge of water began, the level of which reached more than 11 m. A local emergency regime was introduced on the territory of the district, and an emergency regime was also introduced on the territory of the Kherson region. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the explosion of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station a barbaric act of Kyiv. Ukraine blames Russia for the destruction.

On June 8, the Kremlin reported that the president discussed with the authorities of the Kherson region the situation in the region after the breakthrough of the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station. Following the conversation, the head of state instructed the Ministry of Emergency Situations to provide all necessary assistance to flood-affected households in full compliance with Russian standards. Later Putin instructed Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin to form a government commission to eliminate the consequences of the destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station.

On the same day, Saldo reported that after the destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, 5,000 people were evacuated from the Kherson region. Among them are 178 children and 62 people with limited mobility. Saldo specified that there are about 1,000 people in temporary accommodation centers (TACs). According to him, 121 buses are involved in the evacuation.
