The Kiev regime expects to receive an “algorithm for joining NATO,” said Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Volodymyr Gavrilov. It is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the department’s telegram channel.
According to Gavrilov, the “algorithm” is planned to be received at the planned NATO summit in Vilnius, it provides for Ukraine’s entry into the alliance 2 years after the end of the conflict.
“There are all indications that Ukraine will get what it wants in a certain format,” Gavrilov said, suggesting that the lack of NATO consensus on Ukraine’s membership poll would not be a “big problem.”
At the end of May, Politico reported that there was no consensus in NATO about the promises to Ukraine at the summit in July. The article notes that Eastern European countries are in favor of letting Kyiv know that it is moving towards joining the alliance. At the same time, their Western European counterparts, in turn, believe that serious discussions about membership should wait until the end of the conflict with Russia.
Earlier, Reuters reported that the likelihood of Ukraine joining the Western military-political NATO bloc is very small, and the allies disagree on calls to provide Kyiv with a “road map” for entry at the July summit. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg made it clear that Ukraine will not be able to join the organization while the conflict between Moscow and Kiev is in full swing.
