In the Kamchatka Territory it was proposed to give seized red fish to dog shelters

At a meeting of the Presidium of the Legislative Assembly of the Kamchatka Territory, a bill was considered that, as an experiment in the region, allows the transfer of confiscated fish products to animal shelters and sled dog nurseries. On website The Legislative Assembly of the region clarifies that we are talking about salmon fish seized or confiscated on the territory of Kamchatka when the condition of the fish does not allow it to be returned to its habitat.

The amendments also apply to products made from salmon fish, except for caviar, salted and smoked fish. The document assumes that from January 1, 2024, confiscated products will be transferred to these institutions free of charge. “The purpose of the law is, first of all, the rational use of seized or confiscated aquatic biological resources. Today, such fish products are simply destroyed, whereas they can be beneficial. This is especially important for shelters where homeless animals are kept,” said Oksana Gerasimova, chairman of the environmental management committee of the regional parliament.

She also noted that the adoption of such an initiative will solve problems with the equipment of places for storing seized fish products and will reduce government costs to ensure the safety of products.

According to a message on the website of the Legislative Assembly of the region, amendments are planned to be introduced into the federal law “On Fisheries”. The author of the initiative was the head of the region, Vladimir Solodov. The document was developed jointly with the government of the Kamchatka Territory and the relevant committee of the Legislative Assembly. Now the bill must be approved in all 89 regions. If adopted by the State Duma, the experiment will be carried out until October 1, 2026.
