Since the beginning of April of this year, the Directorate for Migration Issues of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region began to cancel the labor patents of those migrants who arrived in Russia in 2024 and did not find official employment within two months, as required by law.
In the St. Petersburg police reportedthat based on the results of the inspections, it was established that some of the foreigners who come to the Russian Federation under the pretext of official employment, in fact, initially did not plan to work, but “use the provided opportunity to live in our country as an excuse for shadow activities.”
If a migrant does not find a job within the period established by law and does not report this to the migration service, he faces the risk of having his patent revoked, and foreign citizens and stateless persons with a revoked patent are prohibited from residing in Russia. If detained, such persons are subject to deportation from the Russian Federation with a restriction on entry into the country for a period of five years, the police headquarters recalled.
