In St. Petersburg, a yellow alert level has been declared from 3:00 to 13:00 on February 8 due to air temperatures that will drop to -20°C, reported press service of the city government.
According to the forecast of the Hydrometeorological Center, cold weather is expected in St. Petersburg in the next few days. The coldest day will be Thursday, February 8, when the temperature drops to -13°C. At night from Wednesday to Thursday, from Thursday to Friday and from Friday to Saturday the temperature will drop to -20°C.
The yellow danger level according to the Ministry of Emergency Situations classification means potentially dangerous weather. Motorists are advised to exercise caution in such conditions and avoid traveling if possible. The government also advised pedestrians to be careful and dress warmly to prevent frostbite.
Since the beginning of the year, the government of St. Petersburg has warned citizens about the “yellow” danger level several times: on January 10, 12, 20, 22, 25 and 29, February 1 and 2. The reason was unfavorable weather conditions – wind speed up to 20 m/s, frosts down to -30 degrees, ice, fog, frost. One of the striking features of the St. Petersburg climate that affects the weather is high air humidity, which averages from 70 to 80%.
