The most spectacular type of aviation model competition was held last weekend in Smolensk. Athletes from all over Russia competed in the Air Combat class for the Cup of the country.
In general terms, the competition looks like this. Two rivals on the lines are piloting models with a ribbon on the tail. The task is to cut off the opponent’s tape with your propeller. The sport is contact, so the athletes are required to wear protective equipment.
This year, 26 crews, consisting of a pilot and a mechanic, took part in the Russian Cup final.
These competitions are key in the 2021-2022 season. They crown the program of this season. It remains only to close it. In October, the Cup of the Smolensk region “Closing the season” for radio-controlled models will take place. The date of the event will be confirmed later.
