The State Council of Tatarstan proposed to allow surrogacy for infertile couples
In Tatarstan, the State Council has prepared a draft law that allows, when using the services of surrogate mothers, to use the genetic material of only one of the future parents, writes “Parliamentary newspaper”.
Currently, the surrogacy program is available in Russia only to couples who can provide their own cells for in vitro fertilization. If one of the spouses is infertile, the couple does not have the right to use this opportunity.
The bill prepared in the State Council of Tatarstan allows that the embryo, which the surrogate mother will bear, can have a genetic relationship with only one of the parents.
For further consideration, the bill has been sent to the Council of Legislators under the Federal Assembly.
The Russian Orthodox Church has previously urged not to soften the legislation in the field of surrogate motherhood.
