Deputies proposed introducing another option for spending maternity capital funds. It can be used to receive paid medical services for the child and medications prescribed by a doctor. The bill states that maternity capital funds should solve the vital problems of children.
One of the authors of the bill, head of the Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs Yaroslav Nilov, in a conversation with the publication, noted that maternity capital should also be extended to the rehabilitation of disabled children in private institutions.
Maternity capital appeared in Russia in 2007. Today it can be spent on improving living conditions, a child’s education, paid sections and clubs, and also transferred to the mother’s funded pension. Starting from 2024, matkapital can be used in the reconstruction of houses with several owners. Also this year, a law came into force that allows maternity capital to be used to create a funded pension for single fathers.
