In Russia, they created a drone to deliver a first aid kit to victims in the forest and mountains

Russian scientists have developed an unmanned vehicle that can deliver first aid kits to victims in hard-to-reach places like forests and mountains and help patients wait for a rescue helicopter to arrive. This was reported in the press service of the National Technology Initiative (NTI) Platform, according to TASS.

A feature of this development, carried out by representatives of the student scientific society of the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI) Georgy Ivashko and Vladislav Vedyashkin, is the lower cost of providing such assistance and prompt delivery of first aid kits.

“Traditional methods of searching and providing first aid in hard-to-reach regions take from five hours to three days and cost from 7 to 80 thousand rubles per hour. Thanks to the use of our unmanned vehicle, the cost of such an operation will be 1.5 thousand rubles per hour, and the average time delivery of a medical kit will be reduced to 40 minutes, which will significantly increase the chances of survival of the victim and reduce the risk of complications,” Ivashko, head of the Golden Hour project, was quoted in the press service of the organization.

It is assumed that the victim in the mountains, forest or remote village will be able to call the “112” service, after which the drone will arrive at the specified location and lower the first aid kit. Then an evacuation helicopter of the Ministry of Emergency Situations will arrive at the scene. The unmanned vehicle can operate at temperatures from -40 to +40 degrees and carry a first aid kit weighing up to 30 kilograms. In the future, it is planned to adapt the device to work in harsh weather conditions (from -60 to +60 degrees) using composite materials.

“Due to the lower consumption of kerosene, the low cost of a flight hour compared to a helicopter and the absence of a crew on board, the cost of delivery will be lower. The unmanned vehicle has already been tested at the Novinki airfield in the Moscow region,” the organization said.

The project was selected to participate in the acceleration program of the project-educational intensive “Archipelago”, which was held in Novosibirsk from July 28 to August 7. Participation in this program helps Russian developers develop their ideas, find investors and receive grant support.
