In Russia, the number of accidents with electric scooters has doubled in nine months

In the first nine months of 2022, 838 accidents involving electric scooters and other personal mobility aids (IMs) occurred in Russia. This is twice as much as in the same period last year. This is reported TASS with reference to a survey on road traffic accidents in the Russian Federation.
The means of individual mobility include electric scooters, gyro scooters, segways, unicycles, electric skateboards.
In road accidents involving SIM, 19 people died and 870 were injured. The largest number of such accidents was recorded in Moscow (198) and St. Petersburg (116). The top 5 also included the Krasnodar Territory (53), Tyumen (45) and Nizhny Novgorod Regions (39). The largest number of deaths is in the Moscow, Sverdlovsk and Tyumen regions, as well as in Moscow.
In October the government approved changes to the Rules of the Road, which regulate the ride on electric scooters. They are recognized by SIM. It will be possible to ride on such vehicles no faster than 25 km / h, and it will be allowed to ride on sidewalks and bike paths only if the mass of the device does not exceed 35 kg. The changes will come into effect on March 1, 2023.
