The Russian government has extended the simplified technical regulation for the production of cars in the country until February 1, 2024. However, phased requirements will be introduced: starting from June 2023, an environmental class of the engine will be installed, and from December 2023, cars will have to be equipped with an ABS system. The corresponding decision was published on the official portal of legal information.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation emphasized that the timing of the introduction of new safety requirements was agreed with the largest Russian automakers, taking into account their technical capabilities and readiness to introduce the relevant systems into the cars they produce.
From June 1, 2023, all vehicles manufactured in the Russian Federation must comply with an environmental standard of at least “2”. In addition, from December 1, 2023, it will be a mandatory requirement to equip cars with an anti-lock braking system, RIA Novosti specifies.
