In connection with the death of activist Anatoly Berezikov in the special detention center of the Rostov police, a criminal case was initiated on incitement to suicide, a Kommersant source in law enforcement said. “The case under Art. 110 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation was initiated upon the fact. As part of it, a search was carried out at the home of lawyer Irina Gak. There are no suspects yet,” the source said.

According to Tatyana Sporysheva, Anatoly Berezikov was arrested on May 11 by the Pervomaisky District Court of Rostov for disobeying a lawful order of a police officer (Article 19.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation). The man was sent to serve his sentence in the form of administrative arrest for ten days. When the term of imprisonment expired, Anatoly Berezikov was detained again. This time for petty hooliganism – the detainee violated public order after leaving the special detention center. He was taken to the Leninsky District Court, where he was again found guilty of an administrative offense and sent under arrest. The situation repeated ten days later. The last time the man was sent to a special detention center until June 15.

Lawyer Irina Gak wrote a complaint to the Rostov Regional Court on the fact of the second arrest on May 21, where she said that an FSB investigator allegedly came to the defendant in the special detention center. He stated that a criminal case was being prepared against the arrested person for posting anti-war leaflets in Rostov-on-Don.
