In Primorsky Krai, due to the outbreak of African swine fever (ASF), 12% of the total number of pigs in the region, more than 55 thousand, will be eliminated. ASF outbreak was detected on the territory of the Leninsky-2 pig breeding complex of Rusagro-Primorye LLC. By order of the governor of the region Oleg Kozhemyako, quarantine was introduced at the enterprise.
“The number of pigs subject to sanitary liquidation at LLC Rusagro-Primorye is no more than 12% of the total headstock in the region. At the moment, there are 461 thousand pigs in the region, so this situation will not significantly affect the food security of the region,”— declared today Minister of Agriculture of Primorye Andrey Bronts.
According to the official, meat shortages due to the outbreak of ASF are not expected, since “primorye producers provide the region with 100% pork.”
On the eve of the group of companies “Rusagro” reportedthat on May 13, a case of infection with the ASF virus was recorded at one of the company’s six pig complexes in Primorsky Krai. “In the near future, all animals housed in the infected pig farm will be disposed of, and the site itself will be cleaned up,” Rusagro informs.
