Doctors from Karelia successfully performed the most complicated neurosurgical operation on a child weighing only 1250 grams, informs Head of the Republican Ministry of Health Mikhail Okhlopkov.
The head of the Ministry of Health of Karelia noted that this is the first endoscopic neurosurgical operation in the region – earlier, children were sent to other cities for such procedures.
The newborn boy was born at the 27th week of pregnancy, his weight was only 1250 grams. The child developed many ailments associated with prematurity, including problems with cerebral hemorrhages and breathing.
Okhlopkov writes that the doctors of the Republican Perinatal Center carefully monitored the boy’s health and nursed him for three months. Now he weighs more than four kilograms, the child is in a stable condition.
On October 11, 2022, a boy weighing 510 grams was born at the 25th week of pregnancy at the Center for Perinatology and Pediatric Cardiac Surgery in Almaty.
For a month and a half, the anesthetists of the Center fought for the life of the child. According to doctors, the boy spent 30 days connected to a ventilator, and only on the 38th day the child was able to breathe on his own.
