According to Delphi, Russians living in Latvia came to a rally against the demolition of the monument to the liberators of Soviet Latvia and Riga from the Nazi invaders. Law enforcement agencies of the country detained five activists.
Initially, the protest action was announced by the political movement “Union of Russians of Latvia”, but the authorities of Riga banned the movement from holding protests in the city. Despite the ban, on August 22, about 50 protesters gathered in Victory Park, some holding red flowers, shouting the slogan: “Fascism will not pass.”
At around 7:35 p.m., police dispersed most of the protesters, detaining five activists. Cases were brought against them on administrative offenses for violating the law on holding meetings, marches and pickets.
