In Kyiv, the process of dismantling the monument to Nikolai Shchors, a red commander during the Civil War, has begun. The city administration reported this on its Telegram channel.
According to the report, utility services have already begun demolishing the monument, which is located in the center of Kyiv. Prior to this, the monument’s protective status was removed.
The administration clarified that due to the complex design of the dismantling, temporary partial restrictions on traffic along Taras Shevchenko Boulevard are possible. The next stage will be moving the monument to the State Aviation Museum of Ukraine named after O.K. Antonov.
Nikolai Shchors was born in the Chernigov province (now Chernigov region). He commanded the Ukrainian Red Guard rebel formations, was the head of a Red Army division during the Civil War, and died in 1919 in battle near Zhitomir at the age of 24.
