A Roman-era sarcophagus was unearthed during excavations in a house demolished as part of an urban transformation project in Istanbul.
The sarcophagus was discovered during the excavation of the foundation of a demolished building in the Büyükçekmece region.
It was found that there were bones bones inside, and the tomb was made of carved stone.
Two archaeologists and an anthropologist from the Istanbul Archaeological Museums Authority conducted a survey of the construction site where the sarcophagus was discovered.
As a result of a three-hour inspection, the human bones found in the tomb were removed.
The panel of experts also determined that the tomb is nearly 2,000 years old and dates to the Roman period.
After the completion of the examinations, the sarcophagus was lifted by a crane and delivered to the directorate of the archaeological museums of Istanbul.
