Estonia assured that NATO countries helping Ukraine will not be left without ammunition

Countries helping Ukraine will not give up all their ammunition, said Estonia’s permanent representative to NATO Jüri Luik. The availability of reserves is provided for by NATO defense plans, he recalled.

The EU promised to provide Ukraine with a million ammunition by March, but will not be able to do this. In the ETV program Ringvaade, Luik explained this by saying that until February 2022 very little ammunition was produced. “The US was producing 30,000 shells a month,” he said. “So this scale is completely unsuitable for the current task.”

At the same time, the Estonian military official assured that NATO countries will not transfer all their personal reserves to Ukraine. “NATO has certain regulations that are necessary to implement defense plans. In any case, states must store these stocks in their warehouses; they cannot be given away.”
