When a child writes, a notification is sent to the teacher to inform him that he is working. This should make it possible to know the working time and the time taken to answer a question. According to the opinion of the Chinese Ministry of Education, this device helps the “strengthening homework management in schools. Teachers must fully correct all assignments (…) and encourage the scientific use of computer tools for the analysis and diagnosis of assignments“.

However, the newspaper said the practice was already widespread in parts of Shanghai and Yunnan provinces. On the internet, a student confided in a post “I’m being watched (…) I’ve lost the joy of summer vacation“. Widely relayed, this post provoked some reactions. Some Chinese want to buy these pens for their little brother or sister, others believe that the school creates an obstacle to the freedom of students.
