About 500 people practice adaptive sports at the school. Maxim Kleshchevnikov, head of the department for physical culture, sports and tourism of the Chelyabinsk administration, spoke about this at a press conference of the Granada Press media holding.

The speaker recalled that a municipal sports school for adaptive sports was opened in Chelyabinsk in 2020. Today, about 500 people train there: some of the athletes participate in health and physical fitness groups, while the rest attend sports training programs and participate in competitions. At the same time, classes at the school of adaptive sports are held on the basis of municipal sports facilities.

“This combination of adaptive sports and other sports schools allows students of the adaptive school to socialize and communicate with other athletes, and children, seeing an athlete with health problems, learn to treat this normally. They also help them and give them advice. This educational moment, I think, is very important,” said Maxim Kleshchevnikov.

This year, athletes have already achieved considerable success in competitions. According to Maxim Kleshchevnikov, Chelyabinsk residents won nine medals at the Deaf Olympic Games, and another 40 awards were brought from the summer games for Paralympians, which were held in different cities of Russia. Also in the treasury were three medals from the world championship in checkers, ten awards from international competitions in various sports, and 65 medals from Russian championships.
