In Chechnya, they developed norms for holding “no-frills” weddings on behalf of Kadyrov

The Spiritual Administration of the Muslims of Chechnya has approved the “Compulsory norms for wedding celebrations” for weddings in the region. Document published in Telegram channel Muftiyat of the Republic, it was developed on behalf of the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov.

As follows from the document, dowry of 50 thousand rubles, tea, sugar, sheep remain unchanged “in accordance with the Chechen adats.” The amount of the bride price is set at will. At the same time, according to the new standards, it is forbidden to make expensive gifts to the groom, father-in-law, mother-in-law and others.

Going to visit the bride’s relatives, the father-in-law and mother-in-law must bring gifts that “have long been accepted in Chechen society.” Expensive gifts to the bride’s relatives are prohibited; gifts to the groom’s escorts “should not go beyond adats.”

“Any excesses that do not correspond to either Islam or Chechen adats, that is, expensive gifts, such as: diamond rings, fur coats, household appliances, apartments, cars, etc. are strictly prohibited,” the document says.

In mid-August, the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, criticized changes in the region’s wedding traditions. In his opinion, the new rules are unacceptable, contrary to national customs. Mr. Kadyrov noted that this also leads to an increase in the cost of weddings. He said that he instructed the local clergy to develop a set of measures to combat the new rules for weddings.
