The mayor of Belgorod, Valentin Demidov, said that due to a significant decrease in demand, the point of issue of humanitarian aid in the Kosmos sports center will be closed from August 10. Yesterday, August 7, 28 food packages were distributed at the checkpoint, while at the start, 4,000 were distributed per day.
“The item worked for more than two months. During this time, volunteers have given out almost 33.5 thousand different sets: food, personal hygiene products, household chemicals,”— explained official in the Telegram channel.
According to him, the flow of residents of the Shebekinsky city district and other municipalities, who were supported at the point, has decreased tenfold. Humanitarian aid will continue to be provided on the territory of other municipalities in the Belgorod region.
Humanitarian aid points began to work in the Belgorod region in early summer, when the border regions of the region were subjected to heavy shelling from Ukraine. Then, for example, the Shebekinsky urban district left the majority of residents who went to relatives and temporary accommodation.
Belgorod region, according to authorities, received more than 1 thousand tons of humanitarian aid from 47 regions. After the decrease in the intensity of shelling, people started return to their homes. By mid-July, about 60 thousand Belgorod residents suffered from shelling got compensation payments.
