Belarus sentences Nexta founder Stepan Putilo to 20 years in prison
The Minsk Regional Court sentenced Stepan Putilo, the founder of the Telegram channel Nexta, in absentia to 20 years in prison. This is reported “Belta”.
Former channel editor Jan Rudik was sentenced to 19 years, former editor-in-chief Roman Protasevich, who made a deal with the investigation, to eight years.
It is noted that Rudik and Putilo were found guilty of public calls to seize state power, terrorist attacks, insulting the president, disseminating knowingly false information and other crimes.
Putilo left Belarus, in one of the interviews he said that he lives in Poland. Rudik also does not live in Belarus. Protasevich was detained in May 2021 in Minsk, after a forced landing of the plane on which he was flying.
