Belarusian senator and former chairman of the Belarusian Hockey Federation Dmitry Baskov said that the behavior of Russian players who refused awards after the Future Cup final in Minsk was unacceptable. The Belarus U20 national team and the Russian U18 national team met in the final of the Future Cup on February 10. The match ended with the victory of the Belarusian team in overtime with a score of 6:5. Edition “Championship” notes that in overtime, Russian goalkeeper Petr Andreyanov asked the judges for a video review due to possible interference, but the referee refused. The dissatisfaction of Russian athletes was also caused by the fact that the referees did not record a tripping of one of the Russian national team hockey players. After the end of the match, Pyotr Andreyanov and two other players, including captain Egor Surin, refused their awards, leaving them on the ice.

“Such an attitude towards our hockey players and fans on the part of boys just starting their journey into big-time sports is simply unacceptable and contradicts the friendship and support that has always existed between our countries and peoples. “Something can be attributed to inexperience and emotions, hot blood, because the ability to lose with dignity and draw the right lessons from defeats is a whole art, and this Russian team has not yet mastered it,” said “Championship” Dmitry Baskov.
